General Thoughts

I am overwhelmed with a passion to spread the Gospel message. The more I know God the harder it is to contain my passion for making God known. I do not mean having more knowledge of God so I can boast about the “knowledge” I have over others, but to know God like I know my lovely bride, or I know my father or mother. To know God.

You growing in knowing God may begin with the “knowledge” of God, but I must warn you, as you begin to understand God for who God really is, you will KNOW God because from the beginning He has drawn you to Himself. God’s word is truth. John 6:44 enlightens us to how God draws us to him.

John 6:44 “No one can come to me unless the Father who sent me draws them, and I will raise them up at the last day.
Over the last few weeks, I have had three specific words and a phrase on my mind I feel God is working in me. The words are unconditional, confidence, and love. The phrase is “rest in that.”

I will start with the phrase. This phrase is a common phrase used my one of my favorite followers of Christ, David Platt, who pastors Brook hills Church in Birmingham, AL. Commonly he uses this phrase “rest in that” or “rest in this” after realizing or reading a profound truth from God’s word.

For example, I would read Ephesians 2:1-5:

1 As for you, you were dead in your transgressions and sins, 2 in which you used to live when you followed the ways of this world and of the ruler of the kingdom of the air, the spirit who is now at work in those who are disobedient. 3 All of us also lived among them at one time, gratifying the cravings of our flesh[a] and following its desires and thoughts. Like the rest, we were by nature deserving of wrath. 4 But because of his great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, 5 made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions—it is by grace you have been saved.

After reading verse 5, I would say REST IN THAT. Pause. Think. Absorb what God’s Grace truly is. Amazing. To ponder upon the thought of Grace. Isn’t it overwhelming to know God has saved us through grace? God is perfect and does not need us, but He loves us so much and saved us to make His glory known to all the nations.

What is so wonderful about Grace is that it is not about how much you do or what you do. The moment you try to do ENOUGH for God is the moment you embark on an unsatisfying journey. Think of it this way. We as humans have finite minds. God is infinite. We will never be able to pay back an infinite God being finite humans. It is impossible. That is the very essence of Grace. The moment you try to pay back grace through your works, it undermines grace because of the very nature of grace.

I recently watched a you tube video and was deeply moved to even greater urgency for spreading the Gospel of Christ. In this video urgency hit me when this was stated:

To pace a room at night saying:

There is a place
There is a place
Where He is not worshipped
Where He is not worshipped

There is a place where He is not worshipped!
I cannot sleep!
There is a place where He is not worshipped!

Wow was all I could say. We must take the Gospel of our King to everyone, to all nations. Scripture teaches us in Matthew 13:44,

44 “The kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field. When a man found it, he hid it again, and then in his joy went and sold all he had and bought that field.

If we truly believe this Gospel is the eternal treasure and truly believe God and His written word is truth, then what are we waiting for? Go to everyone you meet and proclaim this truth. Why would you do anything less than proclaiming Christ if you truly believe in the Gospel of Christ?

Perhaps you are much like the rest of “Christian” America who picks and chooses “which” verse applies to you… Matthew 11:28 says,

28 “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.

And you say… Ahh…That’s for me.

But on the flip side. Matthew 28: 19&20 says,

19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”

And you say… All nations? That’s for some people, not me.

American Christians say, “my heart is for America.” Really? Your heart is for America? So if David was a man after God’s own heart, then I ask you who is God’s heart for? If scripture teaches us through the devotion of David, we as a believer in Christ should be “a wo/man after God’s own heart,” then we must not forget who’s heart God IS FOR… all nations.

Ultimately, the point I am trying to make is this. The moment you begin picking and choosing from God’s word what “applies” to you and what doesn’t, is the moment you try to alter God into the “god” that fits you best. This is a huge fallacy and a belittlement of who God is. We cannot alter God or pick and choose what we want from Him and as if our prayers to Him are an attempt to change God’s mind. In his sovereignty, He determines what is for us and what is not and through his written word He clearly shows what is for us.
