Each trip presents unique challenges and opportunities so be flexible and enjoy the adventure.
ADVENTURE LEVELS:
Adventure Level 1 Relaxed – Adventure with a purpose at its most relaxed pace. Travel by vehicle to ministry locations, stay in hotels or guest houses, indoor plumbing, sleep in beds. No hiking or camping involved. Restaurants and team-cooked meals.
Adventure Level 2 Easy Active – Still no hiking or camping but a few less creature comforts. Possibly several hours in a van or 4 wheel driving each day, outhouses possible during the day but showers and toilets at night, beds may not be quite as soft. Restaurants and team-cooked meals with some sack lunches and snacks during the day.
Adventure Level 3 Moderate – Camping or staying in villages one or more nights. Some light hiking possible but mostly driving or boating. Outhouses and no shower for one or more nights possible. May eat some village food.
Adventure Level 4 Vigorous– Hiking, biking and/or boating 3 to 6 hours a day for several days at elevations up to 6,000 feet. Camping, village stays and hostels for several nights. No indoor plumbing most of the trip. Packaged and dehydrated meals mostly but also opportunities for several village meals.
Adventure Level 5 Strenuous – Hiking or biking 5 to 10 hours a day for a week or more possibly at elevations above 6,000 feet. Camping, village stays and hostels for a week or more. Mostly local food. If they have indoor plumbing you’ll wish they didn’t!
Adventure Level 6 Unknown – Exploratory trip into unknown areas. Could involve any of the items in levels 1 – 5 plus a lot more. We just don’t know until we go. Should make for some good stories for those who make it back!
SECURITY LEVELS
Security Level Green – Go. Open country where evangelism and church planting are legal and culturally acceptable. No hostilities or physical threats expected for team, hosts or nationals. You are free to talk about and promote these trips through all media.
Security Level Yellow – Use caution. Evangelism and church planting may be legal but not welcomed by the predominate culture. Harassment and/or ejection from the country possible for volunteers, hosts and nationals. When speaking to groups or publishing information about these trips use the general area only not the specific country name (for example say Southeast Asia or Western Africa). Do not give out any team member names or specific travel dates. Do not give the names of our hosts or nationals. Be very careful with anything that goes out on email, websites and church newsletters – assume that what you write will be read by everyone in the world!
You are free to share more details in personal conversations with your family and friends but caution them not to publish anything without clearing with you. Email and phone communications while in the host country could be monitored so the work cannot be discussed with people back home while you are there.
Remember that the same precautions are in place when you get back home. We want you to share about your trip but we will be returning with other teams to this area so do not jeopardize future volunteers, our hosts or nationals. When telling others about the impact of the trip do not use the country name or the real names of any of the people. Your talk will be just as effective with pseudonyms.
Security Level Red – Dangerous. Use extreme caution. Evangelism and church planting are illegal and/or culturally unacceptable in this country. Detainment, immediate deportation and physical harm are possible for volunteers. Long-term imprisonment, physical harm and death possible for hosts and nationals. Do not share any information about this trip in any way with anyone outside of your immediate family and very close friends without prior approval of your teamleader. Violation of this policy could cause you to be removed from the team. Email and phone communications while in the host country will be monitored so the work cannot be discussed with people back home while you are there.
