4 Days Before
Extreme Strength
This is the daily reading your volunteer will be focused on today.
Psalm 121
1 I lift my eyes toward the mountains.
Where will my help come from?
2 My help comes from the Lord,
the Maker of heaven and earth.
3 He will not allow your foot to slip;
your Protector will not slumber.
4 Indeed, the Protector of Israel
does not slumber or sleep.
5 The Lord protects you;
the Lord is a shelter right by your side.
6 The sun will not strike you by day
or the moon by night.
7 The Lord will protect you from all harm;
He will protect your life.
In this Psalm we see David anticipating the journey before him. Like David we often find ourselves anxious about what is in front of us. Often concerned about our families, our jobs, our bills and our relationships we find ourselves fearful of our surroundings or finding strength in self-reliance. Often circumstances continue out of control and we eventually fall down exhausted only then remembering it is ultimately God who gives us strength. This short Psalm clearly reminds the believer that God is our strength in all situations and at all times. God is our help, our keeper, our shade, and the preserver of our soul. He never sleeps nor grows weary.
In 2006 we traveled to Mexico to the small town of La Trinidad working with a local missionary lady, Sister Cipriana. Over the course of one-and-a-half years many teams traveled to this area reaching remote communities sharing the Gospel and seeing the Lord work in incredible ways. As each team departed back to the US at the end of each trip she prayed verse 8 of this Psalm over the team.
The Lord shall preserve your going out and your coming in
From this time forth, and even forevermore.
When gatherings and church services end in Nicaragua they often recite the same verse.
“Jehova guardara tu salida y tu entrada
Desde ahora y para siempre.”
Pray this Psalm each day allowing the Lord to lead your walk through the day.
Prayer Prompt
Pray for your volunteer to prepare his/her heart to travel to the remote places to share the Good News.
