Day 2 of Trip

Extreme Teacher

This is the daily reading your volunteer will be focused on today.

John 13:15-17

15 For I have given you an example that you also should do just as I have done for you.

16 “I assure you: A slave is not greater than his master,] and a messenger is not greater than the one who sent him. 17 If you know these things, you are blessed if you do them.

Our Lord has set us an example and commanded us to do as He has done.  Jesus denied Himself physical needs such as food and rest (Matt 4:1-3, Matt 1:35, Luke 22:39-46).  You will have an opportunity to give up proper food and rest to serve others this week.  Jesus healed the sick (Matt 4:24, Luke 9:10-11, John 5:8-10).  We can follow His example by praying for the sick and by sharing our knowledge & medicine.  Jesus wept and prayed for the lost (John 11:35, Luke 19:41-43).  We need to have a burden for the lost around us–to pray and weep for their salvation.  Jesus proclaimed the Gospel (Matt 4:23, Matt 9:35, Luke 4:43).  We will have many opportunities to proclaim the Gospel this week through our lives, through personal witnessing and through the Jesus Film.  Jesus came as a servant (Mark 10:45, John 13:1-17).  The Lord may provide you an opportunity serve others as He did.

Consider this prayer written by Jim Elliot, a missionary to the Auca Indians in Ecuador:  “God, I pray Thee, light these idle sticks of my life and may I burn for Thee.  Consume my life, my God, for it is Thine.”

Are you ready to humble yourself as Jesus did and serve others?  Are you ready to follow the Teacher wherever He leads?  Is Jesus only your Savior or is He really your Master and Lord of your life?  Are you ready for God to consume you with His love and His passion for others?
