Extreme Provisions
This is the daily reading your volunteer will be focused on today.
Mark 6:35-37
35 When it was already late, His disciples approached Him and said, “This place is a wilderness, and it is already late! 36 Send them away, so they can go into the
surrounding countryside and villages to buy themselves something to eat.”
37 “You give them something to eat,” He responded.
They said to Him, “Should we go and buy 200 denarii worth of bread and give them something to eat?”
The disciples were concerned about the physical needs of the people that had followed Jesus into the wilderness. God commanded them to feed the crowd. They looked at their meager resources and asked Jesus “That would take eight months of a man’s wages! Are we to go and spend that much on bread and give it to them to eat?” Jesus then showed them that He wanted them to feed the crowd but that He would provide the food! The disciples were simply to be the conduit through which God’s blessings would flow. They were to be obedient and God would provide for the needs.
These last few days you have no doubt seen lots of needs–extreme poverty, lack of food & clothing, poor housing, medical needs and, most of all, a need for Christ. God may be telling you “You give them something to eat”. But you wonder how can you help so many? Through God’s Extreme Provision is how (see Deut 28:12, Phil 4:19). What seems impossible with human resources is simply an opportunity for God to work. The disciples did all that they could by gathering what food they had and organizing the people into groups. Then, in answer to prayer, God did the impossible. He not only fed the crowd but they also had more left over than when they started.
God wants to meet the needs around us and He wants us to be the channel through which He works! Open your heart, your mind and your life to God’s Extreme Provisions. Do all that you can with the resources you have and then prayerfully seek God’s blessings to complete the task. Give Him the freedom to bless the multitudes through you.
