Planting Seeds – Jennifer Hernandez
While the earth remains, seedtime and harvest, cold and head, winter and summer, and day and night shall not cease. — Genesis 8:22
Fifteen years ago XMA sent a team with Osmany into the Mosquitia. The Mosquitia is the most remote place in Honduras. The team traveled two days by land and one by canoe to a village called Las Marias. They spent a few days sharing the Gospel, teaching, playing with the children, and showing the Jesus film. This village touched Osmany’s and some of the other team members’ hearts and they returned three more times over the next few years. Seeds were planted, though only a few were harvested.
Osmany hasn’t been able to travel to Las Marias again though he has kept touch. He received an invitation last month to travel again to Las Marias. Now the church has become an official church. They spoke of XMA and how because of the seeds that were planted years ago they now have a flourishing, giving church.
This is a great testimony to seed planting. Many times, we don’t give short term mission trips enough credit because we do not see the harvest until years later. BUT without the seeds being planted there cannot be a harvest. Fifteen years ago, Osmany and XMA planted seeds. Missionaries came in from Mexico to water the seeds, and now we see a beautiful harvest. Praise God!
If you are interested in taking a short-term mission trip, I would say go for it. You never know whose life or what village you might be changing.
